For the Love of Tall Curio Cabinets

A Graceful Piece Of Furniture

Tall curio cabinets have a grace about them that can’t be found in any other piece of furniture with the possible exception of a grandfather clock. Many Missouri curio cabinets are of the tall variety and that is true of curio cabinets that reside in homes in a great many states. Tall curio cabinets are the most popular of styles. A tall well lighted curio cabinet that is filled with interesting and beautiful things becomes the focal point of any room no matter what the decor of the room may be.

A tall curio cabinet may seem large to an adult but from a child’s point of view it is huge. It towers above them and it holds mysteries that they can’t wait to unravel.

In my grandmother’s home there stood just such a curio cabinet. In my memory it reached to the ceiling and when you are only two and a half feet tall, that is a long, long way up.

Sometimes in the evening, my grandmother or grandfather would open the doors to that magnificently large curio cabinet and let me choose an item from it. They would carefully remove the item that I had chosen and let me hold it while they told me the story that was connected to it. Wonderful memories!

Today in my own home I have a wonderful tall curio cabinet. Mine is more modern than the one that belonged to my grandparents. It has a mirrored back and it is a lighted curio cabinet. Some of the things that live in my curio cabinet once lived in the antique curio cabinet that belonged to my grandparents. In the evenings, I let my own children choose an object and relate the stories about them that my grandparents related to me.
